Bonefish (Albula Vulpes) " The Grey Ghost"
Found on shallow tidal flats these fish are wary and elusive and are
stalked with stealth by boat or wading. When hooked they can run over 100
yards. Light spinning tackle or fly fishing tackle is preferred. Their
silver body with greenish-blue backs make this fish hard to see
under the surface of the water. The average size in the Florida Keys is 7
to 8 lbs. (Season: Year round)

Permit (Trachinotus falcatus) "Phantom of the flats"
Although found in deeper water than Bonefish, it is pursued much like
Bonefish on shallow flats. Heavier tackle (10 to 12lb test) and a live
Bluecrab is hard to beat. Fly fishing tackle is also used: 9 and 10 wt. rods
and a crab pattern are best. The Permit is very difficult to see in the
water and more difficult than the bonefish to catch on a fly. Presentation
and stalking are critical for success. This is the most highly prized fish
on the flats. Challenge yourself! It's a fish of a lifetime. (Season: March-Oct)

Tarpon( Megalops atlanticus) "The silver king"
One of the world's most premier gamefish.
It's big, strong, and it's defiant leaps are a sight to see.
Hooked on light tackle, fly rods or spin, this fish is a must to pursue.
Smaller fish in the 15 to 30 lb. class are available but most fisherman come
in the late spring to fish for 80 to 100 lb. fish during the migration in the
Florida Keys. Whether it's on spin or fly gear, sight fishing for these big
fish in just a few feet of water is a thrill. (Season: May June July)

Red Drum (Sciaenops ocellatus) "Redfish"
Redfishing can be a very rewarding experience. They are more willing to eat
your offering even after a number of presentations and will fight hard
before being subdued. They will eat a number of lures or flies and this will
increase your chances for a hook-up. Sight fishing for them in backwaters
along mangrove shorelines or out on the tidal flats where they tail up to
eat is the norm. Spending the day in the
Everglades fishing for these fish provides even more
of a show. There is only one Everglades. (Season: year round)

Snook (Centropomus undecimalis) "Linesider"
A sport fish that stands on it's own. It pulls hard, runs and jumps. It
will eat a good number of offerings from flies to soft baits. Most of the
Snook fishing is done in the Everglades.Their peferences
run from the salt water flats to the brackish backwaters of inland bays
along mangrove shorlines. Wintertime can be one of the best times
to sight fish in clear water bays and shorlines as these fish seek the warm
water and lie motionless in the mangroves. Casting to heavy cover for these
fish is very much like Bass fishing. Whatever tackle you choose, flies, spin
or plug gear, fishing for them is a challenge. (Season: Winter and Summer)
