- Miami Bonefish/Biscayne Bay Spring 09
|
|
South Florida's fishing has been good over the
last couple months with warmer weather more
frequent than the cool weather from fronts.
During these months we have fished for Bonefish ,
in South Florida and the Bahama Islands, Permit
and even Tarpon migrating in large schools.
Smaller Tarpon are in the creeks and are eating
just about anything you throw to them. Warm water
is the key for the good fishing and should hold
for a while. We have been seeing and catching
large Bonefish in Biscayne Bay as they tail and
eat on the flats. On some of those same flats we
have been getting shots at Permit tailing and
moving where the water is deeper and a bit
warmer. The Bonefishing in the Bahamas has also
been good. This is the best time of year to fish
there. Fish are up on the flats tailing most of
the day. Not many cool fronts get down there this
time of year and water stays warm. Gotcha flies
took the most fish. We fished a part of the
Exumas that doesn't get many anglers and caught
fish on average about 5 and 6 lbs. Large schools
of Tarpon have been moving on the oceanside of
Biscayne Bay so that whole season is upon us.
You can't go wrong this time of year. There are
so many options to choose from. Besides the great
Bonefishing thats going on at this time, the Back
Country of the Everglades is still active with
big Redfish, Snook and Tarpon. The photo is of
Will Wilhelm on his Spring Break from school and
his first Bonefish. Photo By Bruce Wilhelm.
Good fishing, Capt. John Dickinson
